HEAL® is a nonprofit organization that is measurably reversing the growing epidemic of early childhood disease and obesity. HEAL promotes Healthy Eating Active Living® through a physical education curriculum for elementary school-age children. Teachers, families and entire communities have been won over to a healthier way of life because of HEAL.
HEAL® provides teacher training and support. Teachers are prepared to help children learn to enjoy exercise and develop healthy eating habits. Teachers’ lesson plans can be integrated into the HEAL® curriculum or can be replaced by the HEAL® curriculum.
HEAL® helps children accumulate minutes of quality physical activity that helps them accrue multiple health benefits, improve self-esteem and academic performance, and reduce stress and anxiety.
HEAL® provides the opportunity for every child to succeed, no matter their current fitness level. Personal heart-rate monitors are used to ensure students move effectively at their own pace in a non-competitive environment. HEAL® serves every social and economic demographic in the state of Alabama and is suitable for children with special needs. HEAL® also helps provide a foundation for optimal sports performance.
